Read lender conditions
Ask what dwelling protection, deductible and effective date the lender requires and how the lender should appear on the policy. Insurance for the structure is distinct from optional products that cover mortgage payments or the loan balance after certain events; do not confuse those products.
Protect your own needs too
Lender requirements are a floor for the loan, not a full review of your possessions or personal liability. Check rebuilding value, water coverages and temporary living costs. Ensure the insurer and lender have matching property details before the closing date.
Do not confuse two products
A lender may require insurance on the home as security for the loan. A separate mortgage protection product may address payments or the balance after specified life events. Ask which product the lender is referring to and compare your own dwelling and liability needs rather than assuming one replaces the other.
