Basic and optional coverage
A vehicle registered in B.C. needs ICBC Basic Autoplan coverage. Collision, Comprehensive and higher third-party liability protection are examples of optional choices. The total cost can change when you add them, so check whether two figures describe Basic alone or Basic plus optional insurance.
How ICBC assesses cost
ICBC identifies drivers’ experience and crash history, where a vehicle is kept, its use and its listed drivers as pricing factors. The particular vehicle and repair cost also affect optional coverage. Tell your Autoplan broker if the vehicle is used for business or paid trips; a pleasure-use category might be inappropriate.
Using the estimate
Choose British Columbia in our calculator to explore an illustrative range, then request a real renewal estimate from ICBC or an Autoplan broker. Our simple province factor cannot reproduce ICBC’s driver factor, territorial rating or optional coverage pricing; it is not an ICBC premium.
