Look at the provincial system
Some provinces provide public basic insurance or injury benefits; Québec's bodily injury plan is public, while private insurance addresses other obligations. A short label like “liability” does not describe the whole protection available to a driver in every jurisdiction.
Ask focused questions
When comparing policies, ask what injury benefits are included, which are optional and who can claim. Review the limits and definitions rather than relying on a single premium figure. The provincial regulator or public insurer is the best source for current mandatory coverage requirements.
A cross-province comparison
If you are moving from Québec to another province, a private-policy price may contain different injury and property components from what you paid before. Ask the new provider to identify required benefits and optional upgrades. Compare the protection first, then the cost; familiar coverage labels may not mean identical systems.
