Start with the insurance system
In British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, mandatory basic coverages come through public insurers; Québec combines public bodily injury protection with private property damage insurance. Elsewhere, private insurers generally supply required coverage. A private-policy estimate may not represent the same bundle of protection in every province.
Compare like with like
When reading a provincial estimate, check what is included, how payments are collected and whether optional coverages are shown. Moving provinces can change licensing, registration and insurance obligations. Before relying on a number, consult the provincial insurer or regulator and request a quote for the new address.
When you move provinces
A driver relocating from Ontario to Manitoba should not compare an old private policy payment with a Manitoba estimate without checking Basic Autopac and any optional protection. Write down each component, licensing and registration deadlines, and when the old policy ends. A province selector cannot coordinate the transition for you.
