Start with the property itself
A province is a broad starting point. The exact address, construction, roof, heating, plumbing, protection and claims history can matter more than a provincial label. In areas exposed to flooding, wildfire or severe storms, ask about the particular coverage and exclusions rather than assuming the premium alone captures the risk.
Use the estimate correctly
Our model applies illustrative province factors; they are not measured averages or a ranking of actual home prices. Request written quotes for the real address and rebuilding value, then compare water coverage, deductibles, limits and additional living expenses alongside price.
A property-specific check
Two houses in Alberta can have different rebuilding costs and exposure even though they share the same provincial factor in our tool. Quote the actual addresses with consistent dwelling limits and ask about water and weather-related terms. A province-level estimate is an opening budget, not a property assessment.
Quick check
- Use the real address
- Review hazard-specific coverage
- Compare the same rebuilding value
