What an estimator leaves out

Quick tools rarely ask for the precise address, vehicle identification, driving convictions, claims, annual kilometres, home systems and optional endorsements. Our calculator also uses editorial assumptions rather than live insurer rating data. Its broad range is meant to warn you about uncertainty, not to imitate an underwriter.

What to check in a quote

A quote should identify the insurer, effective dates, coverage, liability limit, deductible, premium and any important conditions. Check whether taxes or instalment charges are included. If you are buying, confirm when coverage actually starts; an online estimate alone does not insure your car or home.

A common misunderstanding

If an estimator shows a range and an insurer quotes an amount outside it, the quote has not necessarily made a mistake. The company may have used a precise postal code, claim history or risk factor absent from the tool. Ask which inputs or coverage choices account for the difference, then decide using the written quote.
