Give complete, accurate information

Insurers may ask about the date, type and circumstances of previous claims. Their questions and rating approaches differ. A calculator that asks only for the number of home claims cannot know severity, fault, settlement or how a provider treats the event. Do not assume a claim will raise every quote by the same percentage.

Compare the next renewal carefully

If a premium changes, ask the insurer or broker for the reason and confirm that the claim record is correct. Compare equivalent coverage across providers. For a small loss, read your deductible and claim conditions before deciding whether to submit a claim; do not delay urgent reporting obligations.

When the renewal changes

If the insurer cites a claim as one reason for a renewal increase, request the claim date and description so you can check the record. Ask for a breakdown of coverage changes as well. Repair inflation or a changed deductible can affect a renewal at the same time; a calculator cannot separate those causes.
