Set out the numbers
Find a realistic current value for the exact vehicle. Ask what collision coverage adds to the annual bill and what deductible would apply. An older car may still be important to your work, so its replacement cost to you may matter more than the simple age category in our calculator.
Check the policy outcome
Ask how a total loss would be valued and whether there are exclusions or settlement limits. Financing can still impose requirements on an older vehicle. Compare a full-coverage quote with a quote that removes collision, without accidentally removing liability or another protection you want.
An older car you rely on
Consider a paid-off car that is essential for commuting. Even if its market value is modest, losing it could disrupt your work. Quote both coverage options, ask how a total loss would be settled and calculate what cash you would need for another usable car. Age alone does not settle the decision.
