Know the system's job
ESC compares the car's intended path with its movement and can brake individual wheels or reduce power to help regain control. ABS helps keep wheels from locking under hard braking so the driver can steer. Read your vehicle's manual for its behaviour and warning lights rather than assuming every model responds identically.
Keep physical limits in mind
On snow or ice, braking distance can still be long. Winter tires on all wheels, a lower speed and more following distance remain important. If a stability warning light flashes frequently, treat it as a sign of poor grip and adjust immediately, not as permission to continue at the same speed.
A flashing traction light
If the stability-control light flashes while accelerating through slush, ease off and give the vehicle room rather than pushing harder. If you feel the ABS pulse during hard braking, follow the manual's guidance and steer toward a safe path. The warning is a reminder of limited grip.
