Name the possible event
Ask separately about sudden plumbing damage, sewer backup, overland water, groundwater and a slow leak. Availability, limits and exclusions can differ by address and insurer. An optional endorsement may be necessary for a particular risk. Read the wording and ask for a written answer on the scenario that concerns you.
Reduce preventable damage
Know how to shut off the main water supply, maintain plumbing and discuss sump pumps or backwater valves where appropriate. Ask whether prevention devices affect your coverage or premium. The calculator does not use flood maps or sewer-backup history, so an actual quote may be very different.
Describe a specific incident
Instead of asking only “Do I have water insurance?”, ask what happens if a pipe suddenly bursts, if the municipal sewer backs up, and if heavy rain enters at ground level. These are different scenarios. Request the relevant endorsements and deductibles in writing for your address.
Quick check
- Separate water causes
