Start with the right market
In B.C., ICBC supplies mandatory basic coverage; Manitoba uses MPI's Basic Autopac, and Saskatchewan has SGI basic coverage. Québec uses a public bodily injury plan with private property-damage insurance. Elsewhere, compare private insurers and licensed brokers for the coverage you need.
Examples, not rankings
Examples of private providers or broker-accessible insurers include TD Insurance, Desjardins, Co-operators, Intact, Aviva and belairdirect; availability and products differ by province. This site has no affiliation, referral compensation or ranking of them. Ask a local broker which carriers they represent, and compare written quotes using matching limits and deductibles.
Build your own shortlist
Start with the provider that supplies mandatory coverage in your province, if applicable. Then consider available private quote channels and one licensed broker. Compare eligibility, written limits, deductibles, annual total and service process. A familiar company name alone does not show that its policy is the best match for you.
