A starting point for your budget
The calculator starts with an editorial reference amount and adjusts it using your selected province, vehicle or property category, coverage and risk inputs. Its wide range reflects the uncertainty of a quick estimate. The reference amounts and multipliers are assumptions for planning, not a statistical survey or insurer rate table.
Car models within the same category can cost very different amounts to insure. Repair costs, theft and claims experience matter. For an actual price, request a quote from a licensed insurer or broker and confirm exactly what coverage you need.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Before you compare policies
Is this an actual insurance quote?
No. This is an illustrative budget range and does not check prices from insurers. An insurer or licensed broker must assess your details to give an actual quote.
Why can two SUVs have different premiums?
Individual models differ in repair costs, theft rates and claim experience. A broad SUV category cannot predict a model-specific premium. The Insurance Bureau of Canada publishes vehicle claims comparisons in its How Cars Measure Up resource.
Does the car estimate include public insurance?
Not necessarily. Coverage rules vary across Canada, and public insurance systems operate in some provinces. In Québec, the public bodily injury plan is connected with the licence while private insurance covers other requirements. Treat this tool as a rough private-policy planning aid and check your provincial requirements.
Can I use this for Uber, Lyft or delivery?
Use the commercial-use checkbox to flag the uncertainty. Rideshare and delivery insurance depend on your platform, policy and province. The tool cannot confirm that your policy covers paid trips. Ask your insurer directly.
